We just wanted to thank two very generous authors for their donations to the Prisoners Literature Project – both of which have significantly helped the organization.

Here’s a great op-ed in the Washington Post about Pennsylvania’s short-sighted ban on non-profits sending (free!) books to prisoners.
Unfortunately, Pennsylvania is still refusing to deliver any of our donated books to their prisoners, & the complaints over this major change in policy are rapidly increasing.
Some major changes have been announced for Pennsylvania’s prison mail system which mean books-to-prisoners organizations may be permanently barred from sending to the state!
The latest sci-fi eBook Storybundle – featuring a bunch of books from Michael Moorcock & Nick Mamatas, among others – is benefiting the Prisoners Literature Project or Books Through Bars as the optional charity.
HEADS UP: the Prisoners Literature Project will be at the Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair on September 15th, and we’d love to see you there!
The PLP gets notable donations of books from time to time, & will be trying to highlight & thank those involved more in the future. This first installment showcases two helpful donations.
Our next two ‘chilled-out’ Sunday morning volunteer sessions are confirmed!
Here’s a couple of truly appreciative recent thank-you letters from incarcerated prisoners that the Prisoners Literature Project has sent free books to.
As we steam into the summer months, we’re still getting 300+ letters a week from needy U.S. prisoners in search of dictionaries, self-help books, fiction, and lots more – that’s a lot!
Prisoners Literature Project is an inclusive, all-volunteer, grassroots nonprofit whose purpose is to encourage reading, the pursuit of knowledge, and self-determination among incarcerated people. By sending free reading materials to those behind bars, PLP aims to foster learning and critical thinking and help prepare people to lead successful lives after incarceration. We believe that all people have a right to read.
Please consider donating to PLP or volunteering your time (if you live in the Bay Area, CA!) to help us answer letters from prisoners who write us from all over the United States.
