Thanks to all for helping complete our 2015 donation drive!
Great news here at the PLP – thanks to your help, we successfully completed our matching donation drive at the end of December. We’re still tallying up last-minute donations, but at this point it’s clear: We’ll be starting 2016 with $5,000+ more in the bank — all because of your kind generosity!
The money now in our PayPal/bank account is ready to be used for postage (and packing supplies!) for the 600-800 books every week we’re sending out.
Excitingly, we’re now less than a month behind on sending out books, meaning that prisoners that sent us letters at the beginning of December are getting their books right now – what a great New Year’s gift to them!
As we move into 2016, we’ll be posting lots more info on the blog about the kind of letters we get, where we get ’em from, and some of our plans to keep things going as we move into the New Year.
In the meantime, keep reading about us, volunteering and donating, and thanks again for your help!
Prisoners Literature Project is an inclusive, all-volunteer, grassroots nonprofit whose purpose is to encourage reading, the pursuit of knowledge, and self-determination among incarcerated people. By sending free reading materials to those behind bars, PLP aims to foster learning and critical thinking and help people prepare to lead successful lives after incarceration. We believe that all people have a right to read.
