Apologies for the back and forth on this, but the Prisoners Literature Project’s open Sunday volunteering hours are now 2pm to 6pm, starting Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 going forwards.
We’ve been sending out a lot of ‘how to draw’ guides to prisoners recently by request – here’s some neat thank-you pictures we received last week!
Here’s a wonderful ‘thank you’ poem from a grateful prisoner. It’s addressed to Prisoners Literature Project & sister bookstore Bound Together Books, which is the address prisoners have to mail to get a reply from us!
ANNOUNCE: the Prisoners Literature Project will be holding a special book picking/packing session on MLK Jr. Day (Monday, January 15th!) from 10am to 5pm.
New York State is piloting a program which only allows a few prison-industrial complex ‘approved vendors’ – which have a limited, unhelpful set of full-priced books – to send packages to prisoners.
As the Prisoners Literature Project powers through the rest of 2017, we wanted to highlight a couple of new pieces of art recently sent in to us.
Our volunteer sessions are running all the way through the holiday, including Xmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (both Sundays!) and Wednesday 27th, for anyone who’d like to come and help us pick/pack books for prisoners.
We just wanted to thank everybody for your amazing response to our GivingTuesday campaign – we met our matching goal, thanks to you all!
Hey there PLP volunteers & friends, We’d like to invite you to our 2017 Prisoners Literature Project holiday party.
Prisoners Literature Project is an inclusive, all-volunteer, grassroots nonprofit whose purpose is to encourage reading, the pursuit of knowledge, and self-determination among incarcerated people. By sending free reading materials to those behind bars, PLP aims to foster learning and critical thinking and help prepare people to lead successful lives after incarceration. We believe that all people have a right to read.
Please consider donating to PLP or volunteering your time (if you live in the Bay Area, CA!) to help us answer letters from prisoners who write us from all over the United States.
